DIY Honey Lavender salve tutorial. How to make a healing ointment recipe

I love using natural products for all of my personal care so I thought I’ll share with you my favorite recipe of Honey salve with Lavender that I’ve been making for my family for years.

http://www.arctida.com/

Ingredients:
Olive Oil ~ 2 oz (57 ml)
Cocoa Butter ~ 0.5 oz (15 g/ 15 ml)
Beeswax ~ 0.7 oz (19 g/20 ml)
Honey, preferably raw honey ~ 1 tsp (5 ml)
Vitamin E ~ 1/2 tsp (3 ml)
Lavender essential oil (or your own choice) ~ 10-20 drops

1.    Combine Olive oil, Cocoa butter and Beeswax into a mixing bowl and melt in a double boiler or in a microwave oven.

2.    Allow salve to cool on the counter. When the mixture has cooled down to approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit (40°C degree Celsius) you can start adding Honey and Vitamin E. The essential oils should be last. Blend the whole mixture well with rubber spatula, spoon or with the electric hand mixer.

3.    Transfer the finished salve into the smaller containers of your choice. Recipe yields approximately 100 ml (~ 3,5 oz) of product.

Notes:

•    Honey is a known source of the bacteria spores that cause botulism. The spores are not nearly enough to hurt an adult and have never been known to cause harm by applying to wounds. Still, to be safe, don’t use honey or honey salve on children under two years old unless the honey has been sterilized.

•    Heating raw honey past the maximum hive temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit changes honey’s essential composition and degrades its quality. It partially destroys honey’s beneficial enzymes and ‘boils off’ volatile compounds that account for the unique, delicate floral aroma of the honey. If you wish to preserve as much of the honey properties as possible, wait until the mixture has cooled off to 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35°C degree Celsius). Most commercial honey is already heated to 160-180 degrees Fahrenheit (70-80 °C degree Celsius) so if you are using commercial honey, you can add honey right after melting your oils/butters/beeswax together.

Natural Homemade Beauty Care Tips - Facial Masks

After getting a couple of request for face mask recipes, I have finally found the time to write this post :)

Nourishing and Moisturizing mask with Avocado, Honey and Yogurt

This face mask is moisturizing, nourishing, smoothing and full of vitamins and minerals. It is perfect for dry and mature skin.
1 Avocado
1 tbs Honey
1 tbs Lemon juice

1 tbs Yogurt
Combine avocado, honey, lemon juice and yogurt in a blender. Let the mixture stand in the fridge for about 30 minutes. Apply mask on your face and neck and let set for about 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water or just wipe off with a damp wash cloth.

Gentle peeling mask with Tomatoes
Tomatoes is a wonderful source of fruit acids (AHA = Alpha-hydroxy Acid). Fruit acids loosen the “glue” between dead skin cells and the cells fall away (aka peeling effect), leaving your face very smooth and soft.
1-2 Tomatoes
10 ml (2 tsp) Honey
4 g C
osmetic corn starch or 1 g Xanthan gum ***
*** if you don’t have cosmetic corn starch (or just do not want to use it), add as much cornmeal, oatmeal or any binder of your choice, as needed to produce a paste.
Combine tomatoes, honey and cosmetic starch/cornmeal/oatmeal in a blender. Apply formed paste to face and let set for about 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Cleansing fruit mask
Great homemade mask that helps you clean your face skin from the dead cells and blackheads
50 g Pineapple
50 g Muskmelon (any melon for that matter, except for watermelon will do fine)
100 ml Water
8 g Cosmetic corn starch***
*** if you don’t have cosmetic corn starch (or just do not want to use it), add as much cornmeal, oatmeal or any binder of your choice, as needed to produce a paste.
Combine pineapple, melon, water and cosmetic starch/cornmeal/oatmeal in a blender. Apply formed paste to face and let set for about 10-15 minutes. Gently wipe off with a damp wash cloth.

Van Gogh’s *Starry Night* - EST Weekly Challenge

I love our weekly challenges! The original idea came from Kreativlink and the whole point is to motivate us to create new things. I’ve wanted to increase my collection of mandalas for a while but never found the time or just had too many ideas at the same time and couldn't pick one so I gave up on making them. And now, it is a perfect timing! Each week, we have a new challenge and I can finally chose just one idea and execute it.

This week’s challenge, Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” was picked out by Staroftheast.

Vincent Van Gogh "The Starry Night"

The colors of that painting reminded me a Spectrolite, which is is the most valued variety of Labradorite and can display the whole spectrum of colors. I chose a cobalt blue one with a splashes of yellow, orange and a little bit of red and voilà - another mandala :)

EST Photo Ispiration weekly challenge

For this week’s challenge our host *Antigoni* (the winner of the last week’s challenge) has decided to give us an ”EST Photo Ispiration Challenge”. She picked out this gorgeous picture and gave us free hands to get inspired by it…

I’ve got influenced by the candle in the middle of the table. It drew my attention immediately and I couldn’t take my eyes of it. Then I’ve realized that I’ve seen similar light somewhere… on my recent picture of a custom order that I’ve made with gorgeous Amber focal. Ta-da... the next Mandala was born :)
