Green gemstone flower ring Prasiolite Peridot wire wrapped sterling silver ring - Gemstone flower collection by Arctida

For the past couple of years I've been making jewelry using mostly metal clay and traditional silversmiths techniques but I haven't stopped with wire wrapping completely. It was the first technique that I've learned in jewelry making and it will always have a special place in my heart :)

So here is a another example of my wire wrapped creations. This one is a gorgeous Prasiolite (aka Green Amethyst) and Peridot gemstone flower attached to woven wire wrapped sterling silver base. The gemstone flower is one of my favorite designs and even though I’ve already done dozens variation (some examples of my Gemstone Flowers collection), I'm still surprised how different the flowers look with various gems. The woven ring base was made with a guidance of Gosia Domańska's wonderful ring tutorial.

Mad Scientists of Etsy (MSOE) monthly challenge - "Photosynthesis"

So the January is over and here are the results of the monthly challenge from Mad Scientists of Etsy (MSOE). This month’s challenge was a creation inspired by the theme of "Photosynthesis".

…just a little bit of mandatory nerd (= science) talk now :)

Photosynthesis is a metabolic pathway that converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, especially sugars, using the energy from sunlight. Photosynthesis occurs in plants, algae, and many species of Bacteria, but not in Archaea. In plants, algae and cyanobacteria photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide and water, releasing oxygen as a waste product.

Now isn't that convenient for us, people and animals that need oxygen to breathe :)

So I've decided to make two entries - both are flowers (duh!?), because they are pretty and Photosynthesize :) The first one is a Flower necklace with gorgeous Sky Blue Topazes and Green Agate rondelles (more examples of my Gemstone Flowers)

The second one is a macro shot of a beautiful pair of Crocuses that I took last spring.

The February month’s challenge is "Mycology", now that should be fun :)

Weekly challenge’s winner!

As those of you who’ve read my blog probably already know, our Our European Street Team has been having weekly challenges and this week *surprise, surprise* I'm the WINNER! (drawn by ArtMind at random).

Here is my entry that won the theme "Cute": Fiore Grazioso - Aqua Quartz, Copper and Pearl necklace. The name means
"Cute flower" in Italian :)

The whole point of the weekly challenge is to motivate us to create new things and I’m glad I’ve participated this time (duh!), it “made” me try completely new style, new techniques, new materials and on top of everything I won! Woohoo!
Since I’m the boss of this week the new theme will be … “Science Fiction”! I can't wait to see what my team will come up with :)
